Why is separate detection of HPIV types necessary?
Human parainfluenza viruses are classified into four types. Among them, HPIV1 and HPIV3 belong to the genus Respirovirus and often present with similar clinical manifestations, such as croup and lower respiratory tract infections. In contrast, HPIV2 belongs to the genus Rubulavirus and is more frequently associated with laryngotracheitis and upper respiratory symptoms. Typing-specific detection allows for more precise etiological assessment and clinical prognosis.
Why include rhinovirus (RhV) detection?
Rhinovirus is the most common cause of the common cold but can also trigger asthma exacerbations and worsen chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It is capable of causing lower respiratory tract infections, particularly in children and the elderly. Due to its high mutation rate and numerous serotypes, reinfections are common.
